Introducing our New Writer!

Hi everyone! My name is Lili Kim (an easy way to remember it is to just think of Lil’ Kim). I’m originally from Southern California, but I’ve been living in New York for almost a decade, so I feel like a true New Yorker :D. I love how this city has so much to offer, it’s easy to meet fascinating people, and I’m always inspired to learn new things!

It was in New York where I continued to teach English (I’ve taught at the middle school, high school, college, and now adult level). It was in New York where I gained so much insight when I went to NYU to get my MBA. And it was in New York where I gave birth to my amazing 4-year-old son!

I’ve been pushed to pursue so many of my childhood dreams in the city that never sleeps! I’ve always wanted to write a book, and I was able to write two: a book about teaching called “Building Rapport and Engaging Students,” and a children’s book called “Walking Cookie Dough,” in honor of my dog Cookie Dough (yes, he looks just like the ice cream!).

On my free time, I love to explore as much of the city as possible (check out my free list of activities!), obsessively read (my goal’s to read 200 books this year-I’m already at 150!) and hang out on pretty rooftops! Ah, I also love to travel-here is a picture of me in South Korea last year, hanging out at a raccoon, wallaby AND meerkats café!

I am SO excited to be writing for Avocaderia! I remember the first time my friend from California asked me about “avocado toast.” I had no idea what she was talking about! But after I took my first bite, I was completely sold. I’m all in when it comes to the avocado craze-I’m always asking to add some guacamole to my dish, and aiming to live a healthier lifestyle.

I first heard of Avocaderia when it aired on Shark Tank last year. I was blown away by how everything was introduced-as were the sharks! I immediately set a calendar reminder to check out the store in Brooklyn, and eventually went to all 3 of their locations, including the newest one at Time Out Market! And due to a serendipitous moment, they catered to my apartment building for a special night in. I think it was meant to be from the start! Here’s my son chowing down on some guac ‘n chips and the avo burger at Time Out Market!

What I really love is how Avocaderia promotes healthy dishes that are presented in a playful and beautiful way. They are also driven by their customers and highly motivated to make a significant difference in the world. Avocados are already changing our world and making eating our greens more satisfying than when we were kids back in the day. And Avocaderia is getting those greens for us all to easily access!

I’ve been writing for Avocaderia’s Instagram for the past few months, and I love being able to have fun with it-adding captions that play on words, food puns and humorous idioms. The photos are also amazing and work up an appetite-as you know!

I have so many ideas on what I want to write and discuss with you, and I want to keep things interactive! Please feel free to share any interesting stories, give me a heads up about exciting things happening around the city, and anything else! Contact me at lili.avocaderia@gmail.com. I’m super excited to hear from you!
