What We’re Reading
In our world, avocado isn’t extra. It’s everything.
Hey Avo Lovers,
We know you can’t live without our avo toast but have you ever wondered how avocado became so popular in the United States? We certainly did so we ended up doing a little digging and found out some pretty interesting facts about our favorite fruit!
Everything we now know about the story of how avocados came to exist in America comes from our current obsession: The Food Explorer by National Geographic writer Daniel Stone, a book that chronicles the true story of the famed food explorer, David Fairchild, who introduced delicious avocados to the United States (along with mangos, kale, lemons, and thousands more of our favorite foods!).
We were lucky enough to get an advance copy of this incredible book from our friends over at Dutton Books and we couldn’t be more grateful to them for spreading the love! Running a restaurant is impossibly hard work and some days we barely have time to sleep but whenever there’s a free moment, we jump at the chance to dive into a great book. When we heard that someone wrote an entire book about the man that helped to popularize our beloved fruit, we couldn’t resist checking it out and believe us when we tell you that it did not disappoint.
We enjoyed reading about Fairchild so much that we even partnered with the folks over at Dutton on a giveaway this weekend and treated our first 50 customers to a hardcover copy of the book along with a gorgeous tote and adorable avo swag. Check out some photos from our event below:
