An Idea for Thanksgiving: DIY Guac Bar
Sure, our beloved avocado may be a less traditional Thanksgiving option, but they still have plenty to offer. After all, the healthy fat is both satisfying and packed with nutrients—a crucial combination when you’re staring down your second helping of pumpkin pie.
So, we thought about a fun creative way to pair your Turkey (or Tofurkey) with the perfect side: a DIY Guac Bar!
There are so many reasons to love guacamole: it’s creamy, refreshing, spicy, and just about perfect combined with any food. That’s the key of the DIY Guac Bar: customization.
Here’s what you have to do in order to set-up the bar:
take a few ripe avocados (consider about 1/2 to 1 per person)
mash them in a bowl with a squirt of lime juice and dash of salt
scoop portions of avocado chunks into individual chunks and then let people add the additional ingredients that they want
Additional ingredients will allow everyone to be creative and make the perfect guac for their taste. Here are some of our recommendations:
fresh raw corn kernels
feta or goat cheese crumbles
cooked black beans
red onion, finely chopped
cherry tomatoes chopped
fresh cilantro, finely chopped
jalapenos, finely chopped
red chili, thinly sliced
cooked bacon, finely chopped
radishes, thinly sliced
mango (why not) or pineapple
lemon or lime wedges
Serve your DIY guac with chips, flatbread, toasted pita bread or baguette slices. To keep carbs down and veggie intake up, you can also use carrots, peppers or cucumbers as your dippers.
We recently partnered with Fossil for an amazing event in their pop-up shop in Soho where we created an ad-hoc DIY Guac Bar and it was a great success. We hope your party will be too!
